Random Thoughts from this last week:
Words are just words. We alone give them their power. We can give them a lot… or we can give them a little. There’s obviously a lot of words strewn together that have been extremely important in history: The Bible, The Declaration of Independence, The Emancipation Proclamation, etc. However, I find it interesting that we live in a world where many of our political candidates, and folks “in power”, are so fantastic at making people believe their words, despite their actions. It’s just a thought, that words without actions and deeds can, at best, only be half truths. It’s the actions that matter.
When I see an article with the word “Powerful….” in the headline, I immediately assume that it’s not. I’m usually right.
I recently attended a Dave Matthews Band concert…. And had an absolute blast! Not because of the environment.. It was extremely hot and crowded, but because of the musicianship. I’ll admit… I’ve been avoiding going to see one of their concerts for years because of a couple of not so pleasant experiences with their fan base. It’s tough to swallow plastic hippy rhetoric for a few hours, no matter who you are. However, after some maneuvering from my amazing wife, we found ourself with tickets and a babysitter, meaning I was going to this concert that I was very leary of initially. From the 1st note they played, I knew I had been missing some great music from an EXTREMELY talented band, because of my prejudice against a fan base. I was letting other people, ruin, what could have been a great time. It was a great, great lesson. They opened with the song “Pig”, and it immediately made me put my guard down; hearing them play their instruments like true professionals. I’ll finish with two thoughts: Carter Beauford is by himself alone, worth going to one of their concerts. There are few drummers that are his equal. Amazing is not even the right word… he’s one of a kind, and the heartbeat of that band. Finally… don’t let prejudice keep you from doing something you think you’d enjoy – dive in.. make it happen, then decide.
I’m sure that I’ve misspelled a lot of words, and made a ton of grammatical errors in my writing; I expect it to a degree. I can forgive a typo, and the occassional error, because “hey!”, they’re gonna happen 😉 But… I can’t help but think that most of our high school English teachers have to be rethinking their purpose in life after seeing how our language, spelling, and grammar have devolved with the use of Social Media. The effort is horrendous, and I’d like to apologize to all the amazing English teachers out there… forgive us, for we know not what we do… ( “Adulting”— seriously?? Adding “i-n-g” to a noun, doesn’t make it a verb!)
Almonds are truly great nuts.
Principles are more important than party.

Fantasy Football is still fantasy.
ZZTop and Billy Gibbons ( guitarist) are vastly underrated.
The world is a fantastic place, and mostly good. Evil does exist, but it’s the exception, not the rule
