- We all should be prescribed whatever psychedelic drug that provides the most complete “out of body” experience. Only then, from that vantage point, we might clearly see our own bullshit.
- Chris Rock has a fantastic comedy bit in his Netflix special “Tamborine”, how karma and justice might be more of a comforting illusion than a reality.
In it, he’s alluding to Trump:
“Yo, man, this shit is crazy. A lot of people are like, “Well, Trump is a bad person and he gonna get his”. You know, some people never get theirs. Some people just fail up. People are like, “Well, you know, what goes around comes around.” No, it don’t. Sometimes it just keeps going around.”
This past week, Joe Kelly, a relief pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers threw a pitch toward Alex Bregman. Then, Kelly struck out another Astros player, Carlos Correa. It was the last out of the inning, and as Kelly walked toward the Dodger dugout, he said “Nice swing, bitch” and mocked him, and made faces. ( Oh yeah… forgot.. Before that Kelly REPEATEDLY threw over to first base with Bregman was on the bag. Over and over again..just to fuck with him). Anyway, after Kelly and Correa had words, both the Dodger bench and Astros bench cleared.
For it, Kelly was given an 8 game suspension by the MLB. 8 games in a COVID-19 shortened season of 60 games = 22 during a regular length season; a significant penalty. Dodger Manager Dave Roberts was given a 1 game suspension.
Kelly’s actions were retaliation for his teammates that were on the 2017 Dodger team that went to the World Series, and lost to the Astros…. WHO WERE PROVEN TO HAVE CHEATED, AND NO PLAYER RECEIVED AN OUNCE OF PUNISHMENT FOR LITERALLY STEALING A CHAMPIONSHIP.
Earlier in the game, Dodger commentator and 1988 World Series Champion pitcher Orel Hershiser didn’t hold back the truth surrounding the consequences of what winning a World Series does to your life. He said “everyday of my life since winning that World Series would have been different.” He mentioned all of the contract money, the White House visits, the continued accolades and opportunities, the parade, EVERYTHING that came from that World Series win. Orel was in the booth, commentating, because he was a World Series champion pitcher. He intimately knew everything that had been stolen from the players on the 2017 team. Kelly, was just doing what the MLB wouldn’t do.
And for the 2017 Astros players… they still got the parade. They got bigger contracts. They have the balls to have a 2017 World Series Champion flag up in Minute Maid park.
Chris Rock is right…some people never get theirs.
- Last weekend, my family and I were up in Cleveland Ohio. As we were walking back from having lunch with some friends, we ran into a protest march. The protesters had bullhorns, flags, and signs representing a number of causes. No “one cause” appeared to be the dominant theme for the protest. However, a few signs stuck out to me that said “Defund the Police.” ( Also…as a side note..protestors really seem to have a hard time with spelling).

Their march blocked prominent intersections of downtown Cleveland for extended periods of time. There were protestors on bikes impeding car traffic, and holding up their fists to signal to anyone who might want to “go” on the many green light cycles to “wait.”
Seeing my kids’ reaction to this scene was heartbreaking and eye opening. I could see them scared. We were just pedestrians, trying to get from point A to point B. It was if my kids could feel the rage and anger in the air. It was getting tense, and whatever innate and unconscious human alarm senses they were gifted, were going off. They both said “I’m scared”, and ” I don’t like this. I don’t feel comfortable.”
As we were walking away, a motorist that had had enough of waiting on the protestors blocking the intersection we were at, started to slowly inch toward the group. The driver, growing impatient, decided to move forward. You could hear the protestors hitting the car, the sound of the horn, people yelling, and bikes being struck. Slowly, the black BMW made it through human blockade, and passed through the intersection. A handful of the marchers tried to go after the car, screaming and throwing up their middle finger as it sped away. On the sidewalk, my family and I continued to walk away as the BMW sped past. In the greatest irony, I could hear one of the leaders of this protest on their bullhorn pleading this…. “Someone here call the police!”
