Here ’tis!…
- Watch: Netflix Stand-up Specials: Sebastian Maniscalco: Is it Me? & Sheng Weng: Sweet & Juicy
- Podcast: Huberman & Andy Galpin: Dr. Andy Galpin, Professor of Kinesiology at California State University, Fullerton, and Dr. Huberman go over how to have both strength… AND endurance. They nerd out. It’s great stuff. ( Galpin returns on the podcast in later episodes as well and I would recommend checking out his work).
- 1812 Overture vs. The Nutcracker – Now that the Holidays are past us, here’s a head-scratcher…. Back in July during Independence Day celebrations, many Symphonies and Orchestras chose to NOT play the 1812 Overture because of it’s Russian origins (* written by Russian composer Tchaikovsky) as a tribute to their win over Napoleon’s invasion that year. We were very sensitive at the time ( cough…cough… we’re always sensitive now…) due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. But theeeeennn came Christmas. And we have to make money at Christmas! So Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker was NOT cancelled. I guess we’re good with supporting Russia again???
- Having a hard time choosing if you should spend your money on an item or an experience? Do this quick ‘value of time exercise’ –
- You are exchanging hours of your life for money. You are. You have finite hours.
- Calculate down to hour how much you make ( take out taxes, social security, etc. ONLY count what you actually bring home).
- Do it for the time period you’re NOT doing other things, because of work. Your commute counts. Your travel for work COUNTS. How many hours was it? How much $ are you taking in? Now divide THAT amount by the amount of hours devoted to ‘work.’ What are you taking in per hour?
- NOW… think of how you’re spending it? Those yoga pants cost me 4 hours of my life. Those movie tickets cost me 2 hours. Those drinks with friends costs me 5 hours with the Uber ride, etc.
- Hopefully a quick exercise like this can show us how we are spending are time, and focus it on what’s important. Sometimes it may be the ‘thing.’ Sometimes it may be that event that has your calendar blocked off.
- And on that note…..
“It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live.”
― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations.
Until next time!!!
