- There was a mass shooting in Colorado. The reactions were likely and followed the same script they always do. Even with 1% of gun deaths coming from these type of mass shootings, we have an understandably hard time striking a balance between appropriate compassion and knee-jerk, emotional over-reactivity. It is something for which to strive. Many presumed the person was “white”, because apparently that’s all we can talk about anymore. Vice President Kamala Harris’ niece was included here, calling “violent white men” the greatest terror threat to the US.” When they found out he wasn’t, it didn’t really matter.

- Prince Harry became the Chief Impact Officer at a Mental Health Start-up in Silicon Valley, because of course he would. A do nothing title, earning more money than everyone combined in Appalachia, to further the notion about How Hard Everything Is from the wealthiest place in America, where the workday is 10:30 a.m. to 3pm. Perfect. The company he’ll be “working for” ‘brings together world-class coaching, AI technology, and behavioral science experts” to help people “live more meaningful, vibrant lives.’ Well, I’m glad they perfected it, the internet has clearly done wonders for behavior and mental health thus far….

- A local Church revamped their “Racial Reconciliation Statement” on their “Racial Justice” Page. Asking the congregation to read “How to be an Anti-racist”, which is a book that could have been one sentence “You’re all racist no matter what you do.” There is no in between, or something where race is somehow not a factor. All policies are either “racist” or “anti-racist”; they cannot be colorblind. Capital gains tax policy is racist because there are fewer people of color as investors; this is the logic used. Binary thinking only.
- US Gov’t Cabinet posts were threatened to be opposed because they weren’t diverse enough. They had to represent Asians, or they would not vote for even Non-White members. So, now we’re at a point where we’re making picks completely based on race ( the definition of racism) AND paying zero attention to the qualifications that would merit such a post. Superficial qualities only, people. We have gone so far afield from what Dr. King preached to us on judging by the content of character. Even this past year, on Dr. Martin Luther King Day, as all of the typical virtue signaling occurred, his famous quote regarding the content of character was noticeably absent. I wonder why.
- Kids in cages at the border got little press coverage. Biden campaigned on welcoming all, but when that happened, It was “whoa, whoa…wait a minute!.” People excused him because of the D next to his name. Then, we sent our VP; a person who has withheld evidence in court to keep people IN cages, to negotiate with Mexico and Guatemala on our behalf.

- There was a Twitter post calling on schools to stop rewarding “perfect attendance” as it is “ableist.” Yeah, discipline and perseverance DO make people able to do all of the things that the fragile cannot. These are typically the same people paying for every shitty decision from our elected officials.
- Bill Clinton was chosen to speak on a women and girls empowerment project. Seriously.

- Governor Cuomo in New York, has been accused by more women for sexual misconduct while in power. ( Along with having lied to the Feds about the nursing home deaths in his State while writing a book about how great of a job he was doing, and going on his brothers show on CNN to promote. Oh, he’s also accused of getting access to COVID-19 testing for cronies, while others couldn’t access). The crowd that decried Brett Kavanagh’s potential appointment to the Supreme Court for something he may have done while drinking as a youngster, and well before he had any power, has been completely silent on this matter. Perhaps if we have folks willing to stand-up to their own side ( again…”equitably”) when they do wrong, then maybe these things will happen less in the future. But that takes courage and honest – a rare trait, indeed.

- A $3 Trillion dollar spending bill was proposed. It could be $4 Trillion…. After a $1.9 Trillion just rammed through. Math and reality no longer matter. Let’s suspend gravity while we’re at it. Biden, who was given permission by his overlords to finally do a press conference where only 10 reporters were allowed, in the middle of a working day on a Thursday, called the folks in Washington that opposed the astronomical spending “racist.” Get used to this. This is their only come-back for those whose logic warns of tomorrow’s hangover from today’s party. We never learn.

- Meanwhile, we’ve called Putin a killer. China is amassing power while as they ( and Russia) continue to show how weak our Cyber Security is with the recent Solar Winds and Microsoft Exchange hacks. North Korea is being North Korea and firing missiles.

- And finally, and maybe most chilling, the head’s of Facebook, Google/Alphabet, and Twitter were summoned for the 3rd time in 5 months to testify in front of Congress. For five-plus hours on Thursday, a House Committee along with two subcommittees ripped the three tech CEOs; demanding that their sites censor more political content and threatening certain legislative retaliation if they fail to comply.
- As Glenn Greenwald told the story: “At one point toward the end of the hearing, Rep. Lizzie Fletcher (D-TX), in the context of the January 6 riot, actually suggested that the government should create a list of groups they unilaterally deem to be “domestic terror organizations” and then provide it to tech companies as guidance for what discussions they should “track and remove”: in other words, treat these groups the same was as ISIS and Al Qaeda.” You can spot a repressive regime by their wielding of power to silence those people and ideas they dislike.

This is not a road we want to go down; censoring, labeling, and policing our own Citizens. It’s authoritarianism by a thousand cuts. The recent power shift to extreme Leftism, despite nearly half of the country’s opposition, is going to be rammed through. They have the chip stack, and the cards, so they’re going “all-in.”
If there’s a better way to assert your authority than demonizing all who oppose you by calling them racist, making the citizenry dependent for money and care through only you, enslaving them with debt from your runaway spending, and then shutting down all lanes for dissent through open threats…. I don’t know what it is.
So, with all of this, it might beg the question “Where were you when Trump’s brand of authoritarianism was polluting Washington and calling out the Right when they behaved badly?” Good question, and a valid one. I’ve criticized the Right plenty, but so did every news outlet and human with an Opinion while Trump was in power. The Media was never ever going to let him get away with anything, even if it meant making up lies about Russian “collusion”, etc. Now, it’s different. The Media is not only being unfair in their coverage of the new Leftist regime, but are willingly complicit in pushing their agenda. That’s dangerous, scary, and needs to be highlighted. If not, we risk what happened in the book “Ordinary Men.” Where a group of normal, everyday Polish Police Officers took steps into Hell, one at a time, turning themselves into Nazi monsters.
I say all of these very serious things; these scary warnings, knowing that they aren’t fun. Please though, even with all of this going on, don’t lose your humanity and the fun in life.
Be like Russian Dissident Presidential Candidate, Alexei Navalny: A man who was poisoned by the State, then willingly went back to Russia where he knew he would be arrested, and kept his sense of humor as it was happening and quoted the animated show, Rick and Morty:
“To live is to risk it all, otherwise, you’re just an inert chunk of randomly assembled molecules drifting wherever the universe blows you."
